Hello all! I've got tons of event updates, but need to prioritize postings because of time constraints!!

Super excited about this!!

A major cable network has contacted Diamonds & Dreams to participate in a documentary involving the Swan family of Helotes. The Venue is slicing their normal fees for their facility use when booked through us, so this is a HUGE boost to your budget AND you'd be on TV!! How great is that??? Did I mention the hill country venue is lush, green and GORGEOUS!

So, if you are anyone you know is in need of a venue, let me know NOW!

Talk to your neighbors, cubi-buddies, cousins and folks you don't like ,folks you love!! Don't miss this opportunity!

Some rules:

Must be a large event with at least 150 in attendance, baby showers can be a BIT smaller,
Must be filmed between June 1st and July 24th of this year. (limited dates, but most Sundays are available)
and must allow Diamonds & Dreams to coordinate.

Hello everyone!

Melanie came to me through a bride we did this past summer (I'm waiting on photos from that wedding STILL!)

Anyway, Melanie was a bridesmaid for Taylor and she loved what she saw while we worked! yayyyy for good grades!

Melanie & Johnny were super sweet couple and Melanie knew exactly what and how and when she wanted things for her day! lol......I love it!

They held the ceremony at the gorgeous Grace Lutheran downtown! If you've never been, you HAVE to visit it at least! The church's stained glass is soo amazing! It was definitely a family affair....Melanie's great uncle Danny was our Minister for the day...and he had married his life love in this same church over 40 years prior! Fabulous! Minister Danny ALSO knew exactly how and what and when HE wanted things done for the day! Needless to say, we all toed the line and the service was perfect!

Melanie did a black and ivory theme with touches of gold and HOT pink & lime green! beautful! Of course, I'm biased, you tell me if I'm "off!"

Just a quick note, that pregnant girl in thebackground holding the champagne is ASSISTING the bride....she's not drinking while pregnant LOL....Melanie needed her veil adjusted and my girl Danielle offered to hold her drink for her!

Our groom, Johnny, loves to golf.....so, Melanie designed this cake cart! too precious!

We're waiting for the doors to open to assist the guests for seating! Enjoy the break now ladies, its fixing to get busy (Danielle and Sara work very well together!). Great job girls!

Hello all!

I've been a slacker in posting, so now I'm playing catchup!

This past September we had the opportunity to work with Jacalyn & Michael and their girls! This couple (family!) was a long distance group from Virginia. Both are very busy doctors and so they called in a little bit of help!

They were married in the Little Church of La Villita and reception was at the beautiful RioPlaza. I'm waiting on "PRO" photos, but these will give you an idea of how beautiful it was!

Hello all......yes, its really me! Miss me? (please say yes!)

Ok, let's get busy......first, my husband and I are soon to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary (I told you I was older than dirt!). So, we decided to throw a small party for a few very special people!

Before I show you photos tho, let me say THANK YOU to all those folks that helped us out!

The ceremony was at Mission Espada (I love that little church!). We asked Carol Garner (Moonstruck weddings) to officiate for us. Ambiance Florals did ALL the decor and flowers at church and at reception! Kyrenda King and Richard Diaz de Leon sang/played amazing music for us! (frank sinatra to michael buble---what range!) And Sandra Lanae Photography took photos for us (pro shots coming shortly), but for now....my buddy Bob Keilman took some "work in progress" shots!

Big Time Limos escorted us around two cities and made us sooo incredibly comfy! Thanks Eric!

Linens were from Great Event and Rentals, food by Columbia Culinary Team (thank you to a great team led by Betty Gamez and Chef Jeff), Complete Music DJ'd for us (those galloways are awesome!) and brought their karaoke equipment (my family really shouldn't sing, but they did! ) and we also had a casino for after dinner! We brought in some of our own desserts (cupcakes in 4 flavors and 3 flavors of pie!). Cantu party services bartended for us (yayy for beer!). BP Lighting did some lighting for us (we wanted some but didn't want to distract from "rustic"....so we highlited drapes and did more outside.

And one of the amazing hilites of the night, my nephew Tim and Erin (she's still like a daughterinlaw to me!) sang and played guitar for us just as we sat down to dinner! they were incredible!

And Valerie Gaytan.....coordinated the night for us......flawlessly I might add! Thank you everyone, such a perfect day with perfect weather!

Ok, onto the photos and then we'll talk a bit more!

We held the reception at an old old hall in Coughran Texas (just outside SA) and it offered everything we needed for the day: kid friendly, perfect size for our event, we could cook onsite, and it was old and cracked and just a bland space screaming for color.....enter the peacock! :)

This is the hall Friday afternoon as we setup. Very raw space,but great "bones."

The hall can hold up to 125 guests (using the loft area, too) but we decided the loft would be a gaming area...we put the casino tables up there.

Saturday and its wedding day!

Mission Espada, such a beautiful little church. Mission Concepcion has had renovations already (if you haven't visited lately---GO!), Mission San Jose is in the process of reno, and Mission Espada is on the docket to get renos after San Jose. I'm glad we snuck in before renos.....I love cracks and missing stucco and history! its perfect (I understand renos are done to save the buildings, but still glad we used it "old!")

My brother, mother in law, the flower power girls, and one of my sons waiting to get inside.Since we married originally in the 70s, felt it was only right to have something a bit retro...so my daughter maggie and my granddaughters got to dress a bit funky for the day. Made it easy for them to play later on too.....no frilly dresses to trip over :)

My beautiful bouquet....hand wired cattleya orchids and ostrich feathers....stunning!

My husband (isn't he handsome?) and me trekking to the church. He got to corset my gown for me as we dressed at home...only 1 lesson! Good job babe! :)

Ok, so I tried realllllly hard NOT to be a coordinator/planner on event day, but as you can see, my briefcase followed me even to reception!

That's my sister in law, Trisha, watching me in amazement! I amaze most of my family (that's not necessarily a good thing! lol)

Very special people!! My super talented nephew Tim (guitar maniac!), his brother Bob (known as Constable Rob in some parts of the state!, another of their brothers, John (also known as Sarge in guadalupe County, and my oldest son, Justin.....I've nicknamed him Tin Man (for reasons only he and I share!) I love these guys!

Our guest tables turned out beautifully!

And the family table, setup a little differently, but still amazing. See how the color just transforms the rooms?

Ok, i've been dieting for months, lost a little weight.....so let's see if I can gain some of it back in the next 30 minutes....let's eat!

Yummy desserts.....we decided we really didn't want a "wedding cake" so we opted for different sweets (cupcakes and pies!)

And those amazing Galloways (recent newlyweds!). Thanks again for entertaining our families!

We did a lot of "non traditional" things at our event. We had great music, really good food, great friends AND games! Didn't have a lot of dancing on the floor, most folks opted to listen to music and play cards instead! Worked for us! Everyone had fun, ate until the wee hours of the morning and kids got to run and play just like at a family bbq, but none of the clean up! lol

Ambiance & Diamonds & Dreams.....the team to beat IN and OUT of San Antonio! They are THE most amazing florists/design specialists around!

Hello all!

Just finished another beautiful event this time at gorgeous canyon springs golf resort for Jordan and Tommy. The crew at CS is always fun and easy to work with! Our Banquet Manager Craig and his team were fantastic, and believe me, we put him to task! 300 plus guests (all very thirsty and hungry)....and they were spot on for each guest!

The rehearsal was super hot on friday, but thankfully an unexpected COLD FRONT came thru and gave us some relief on wedding day! Slightly overcast and temperatures in the low 80's.. life was perfect.

Our vendors for the day, were Cakes by Cathy Young, Ambiance Floral and event design, michelle garner photography and really talented friends of the family did ceremony music for us (thanks Matt and Chris!). Mike Lavender did our reception music and kept the entire group on the dance floor all night! THANKS to all for a fabulous job....and thanks to my girls (Danielle and Julie) for their "normal" great job!!

We had a lot of fun with Jordan and Tommy and their families were super to work with. Thanks you two for allowing us the honor of being a part of your day! And thanks to my buddy Bob Keilmann for taking some photos for MY scrap book!

Hello everyone!

Ya know, I wasn't sure how to approach this particular blog, but let me just start out by saying....WTH?? :)

Late last summer we had the good fortune to book an out of state couple, Jason & Kelley. Unbeknownst to this coordinator, there is a third member of the family.....Barley (the cutest dog ever to quote his owners!)

Well, it seems Barley was unhappy about being left behind for the upcoming nuptials....and took his frustration out on my mailed contract! BARLEY!!!!

But, really, can you stay mad at such a cute guy? Ok Barley, you're forgiven....now........go get the stick!!

Jason and Kelley's wedding was on April 10th, and I'll post some photos of the humans a bit later!

Baby Showers!

Hi Everybody!

Baby showers! We love baby showers!

We had the honor of working with another past client, Sylvia and Brian recently by coordinating their family baby shower in honor of their soon to be here daughter, Vivianah.

Sylvia LOVES bright colors, so bright we did!

The shower was held at paesano's at 1604 and Evan Gambee and his team were INCREDIBLE! Perfect place for showers, small weddings and great for rehearsal dinners......make sure you look them up!

Sylvia didn't do the normal "games" and silliness we sometimes love to hate (we hate getting the games started and yet laugh our selves silly once we get going!). Instead, she opted for a really great lunch and liquor (not the mommy, just the guests!).

Vivinah made out like a bandit with all the loot (nieman marcus comforters?? seriously?? :)

Sylvia had a belly cast made prior to the event and we used this as her sign in "book" and we also had a belly cake (thanks danielle for the idea!) to munch on!

Sylvia's family is so incredible to play with and even more fun bringing in this little one!

God bless you and your family Sylvia! Thank you for letting us share this moment with you too!

And, for once, my procrastination has paid off it seems......we've even got photos of our little diva too! Gracious people.....look at her smile!!

Last september, D & D coordinated the Knot Networking SA party at the fabulous McNay Art Museum. Our PRINT story will be debuting in the may issue of the Knot Texas! yayyy for magazines!

Hello everyone!!

Let's see, happy valentine's day, happy st. patty's day, happy easter, HAPPY FIESTA (for those of you from SA!)...what other holidays have I missed since my last blog...you guys just need to beat me when you see me for taking so long to post! Well, we have been busy lately, ok no excuses...........let's get to the stories!

February we had the opportunity to work with Victoria and Hector (and as amazing as they are....their families were also amazing!). Victoria was a referral from another client (thank you Liz!!) and just an absolute DOLL to work with (she looks like a doll too!)

Victoria and I searched the rainbow for her final colors........we started with yellow, and just about everything in between (we're sooo indecisive!) and then went to the extreme........pomegranate, plum and melon (doesn't it just sound yummy??) Well it was!

We held her ceremony in the gazebo at the Southwest School of Arts and Craft and then dinner and dancing in the beautiful chapel. If you have not visited this site, you really need to make a trip downtown. Its such a serene environment and lends itself perfectly to a beautiful wedding!

CMI did the photos and they've sent me a couple, but not nearly enough! The linens were a beautiful deep purple (almost blue!)...stay tuned for more photos!

One more winter wedding!

Bianca and Johannes.....possibly the sweetest people on the planet, were married this past weekend with ceremony at Mission San Jose and their reception at the Rosenberg Skyroom at UIW. The decor was stunning, as was our bride! (Joh, you were pretty handsome too!)

I loved the Mission ceremony, but unfortunately didn't snag any photos :( but the missions are soo beautiful even without decor - please make it a "to do" to go and visit any of them when you have an hour or two to truly VISIT and appreciate SA's heritage!

Margaret Dodson, of A New Leaf did the reception floral designs as well as all the personal flowers and Simply Charming did the beautiful (and oooh so tasty) cakes!

Sarita's Dance Studio students were on hand for some great entertainment (they are ALWAYS great!) and Holtz Entertainment did a fantastic job with his Video DJ! Those videos are hard to take your eyes off of!!

Taylor and Antoinette at the Skyroom were incredibly easy to deal with and very helpful and their preferred catering company (Sodexho) was on spot all night....Chris, your team is great!

Ilios did stunning lighting for us (soft blue perimeters that changed to hot purple during the nightclub hour!) and we had hot pink acrylic bars unveiled at this time as well!

and of course, yours truly and AWESOME team (Rebekah on my left and Kristye on my right)!!

Summer's Winter Wedding

And yes, you read the post title correctly.........Our bride, Summer and her new husband, Martin held their WINTER wedding at the Weston Centre and it was absolutely stunning.....I'm still waiting on Winfield Little to send over some fab photos, but in the meantime.....here's a few we took!

Ekta's color change was sooo beautiful, and thank you (a great big thank you) to Bob Keilman for traveling to Austin with us on such a dreary day (and a long day!!) to capture all of these photos for Diamonds & Dreams! Bob, you are awesome!!

Reception table decor consisted of three totally different looks --- and as we were in a hurry to flip the room, all the tables are not completely set, but trust me, they "finished" up beautifully!!:

christmas ornaments in tall cylinders (Ekta placed her and her groom's names on them, as well as a bit of bling on EACH ornament!),

2nd setup was of beautiful, cut facet hurricanes

and last, square vases filled with manzanilla branches and beautiful orchids and crystals.......

our cake was gorgeous and tasty too! Espresso/pistachio flavors cloaked in a beautiful plum fondant and a bit of gold filigree! BEAUTIFUL!

Hello everyone!

I cannot believe its been almost 4 full months since I last blogged. OMG, just beat me now! No excuses really. Just plain busy!

Here are a few photos of recent events and more to follow! FOUR months?? really? yikes!

This is at the Hilton Airport (Austin). We had such a great time with staff at the hotel and also the bride's family (Ekta! Your family is krazeee fun!). Trevor's family was more subdued, but we corrupted them as much as possible too! Since this event, my staff is now asking if we can do all our events in saris! No, we cannot, stop begging me!

Ekta's ceremony and reception were held in the same ballroom, so we naturally did a flip after ceremony. Her initial colors as you see were red, ivory and gold with splashes of turquoise (the attendants were stunning!), but for the reception......we went to mardi gras colors....purples, greens and golds! fabulous! Thanks so much Ekta and Trevor for letting us play with you on wedding day! :)

Ok, last post for the day!

Diamonds & Dreams has been chosen as this year's coordination firm for the Knot San Antonio Party. We could not be more excited and we're gearing up for a great party! WE've been scheming with our regional rep, Cindy Elley and Susan DiHarce from the Knot's corporate division and we've chosen the fabulous McNay Art Museum as the venue of choice.

September 29, 2009 is Party day and we've got such great plans already laid out! We have a ton of great vendors already lined up and just finetuning some of the details to make the date perfect.

We will also be gathering food gifts for our charity of choice, the SA Food Bank! Heather at the food bank has been incredible and we're looking forward to hitting our goal of 1/2 ton of food to help them with their annual goal! Partygoers....that's only 5 lbs of food per head! We can do it! :)

Watch out for photos as soon as party is over!!!

Hi again!

Teresa Sandvig, with Elan Imaging is pretty fast at getting photos back to me of the events we share (thanks girl!) and they are always great shots! Look at the beautiful job she did with Kristie and Andrea...

Kristie & Robert (ceremony and reception at Southwest School of Art & Craft) and their family were a blast to work with! The wedding was amazing (yes, I cried) and Kristie and Robert make such a handsome couple....I have created a gallery on my website, if you want to see a few more!

Then we had Christine and Rick. This couple was stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan respectively/simultaneously and we did planning from very VERY AFAR! lol.....we wound up moving venues (the guest count grew!) and so we were able to play at the Menger Hotel for ceremony and then hopped over to Pat O'briens for a fun reception! Black, ivory, gold and soft pinks....We draped the Josephine room (pretty on its own but we love to enhance!) and gave it a much more elegant look! Crystal (sales mgr) at pat's was awesome to work with and was SOOOO flexible and Doreen at the Menger, is always eager to help as well!

Andrea and Daniel.....another UNIQUE couple....married at the Marquardt ranch in Boerne. They wanted "earthy" tones and a very relaxed day, so we opted for apple green and luscious chocolate and the venue could not have been any better! Their guests had a great time and the couple was so relaxed all weekend! Thanks to Mandy at the Marquardt for making us feel so welcome! And she's pretty good at hustling those processionals along too!

Next up, Jennifer and John...oh my gawd, these two were so much fun! I don't think there was anything they didn't want on their day! We incorporated 4 forms of travel (limo, chartered bus (trolley broke down!), double decker tourist bus and of course, a river barge)! Ceremony was at the UIW chapel and Weston Centre was their reception site. The couple are avid outdoorspeople, so everything we did was "nature" based... Casa Sol was the caterer of choice (wow did they pull off a great event!) and Signature Ice did a fabulous Double Ice Luge for us (cowboy boots, state of Texas and watermelon martinis rushing thru! yuuuuuuuummmmy!). We had jr dancers come in and entertain with some really great dancing (not folklorico, not flamenco, but true Mexican Folk dancing)....the kids...ranging in age from 7 yrs to 17yrs were absolutely flawless and the costumes amazing! The weston centre loved the set up so much, they have placed it on their website for the new virtual tour! A New Leaf and my buddy Margaret Dodson BUILT two 7' trees to enhance our venue (we needed nature INSIDE), and my roomies, Ambiance Floral and event design team, Gene Weston and Tony Ferro did all other florals.... Linens were by A Touch of Elegance out of New Braunfels and PHilip Thomas did the amazing photos and I have to tell you, he was really great to work with! Check out some of his work below!

Upcoming in 2009 we have: Julianne, Vanessa, Veronica, Sarah, Amy, Katie, Mary...these are proving to be some really great events too....will keep you posted as they occur! We're even getting to do a baby shower for one of our past clients...I love the baby showers!!

And we've booked into 2011 already! Life just doesn't get any better than this!

Ok, let's see, next up was a couple of weddings we did and some more photos!

We recently did a very revised consulting/coordination wedding. As most of you know, we can handle any and all aspects of a wedding/event......from decor, to lighting, finding vendors for anything from linens to furnishings, running errands, etc.

We received a call from a bride stating she had almost everything under control, for a very small wedding, but she just didn't have time (nor the energy) to run her ranch AND a wedding on event day! Could we find her cake, chairs and tossing petals, a unity candle, flowers, ceremony music, clergy and then make sure all was set up/broken down on wedding day? She wanted to do everything else and.....feed her horses! lol

We did just that! Wedding was held in Boerne at the Gazebo in Main Plaza and the bride looked stunning and the small group then dined at Cypress Grill and all stayed at the adjoining hotel right in Boerne.......I didn't get any photos, but did snag this one from Rev. Garner of Moonstruck Weddings........she's such a fun pastor!! If you need clergy, call Carol, she is really FAB!!

Congratulations Kellie and Bradley.....and you know, she never did say if she fed those horses!

hello all!

I'm not posting this in any particular order, I just want to do it before I get run over by more business!!!

Let's see, first on my mind was one of my staff's recent wedding...Actually, Erin is more than staff, she's the mom to my granddaughter..Megan!

Erin and Ted had planned their event for november, but for personal reasons, decided to move their date up a bit (they'll have a big party later, but for now...let's get hitched!).

Erin's father, Jeff Landon and step mom, Terri Landon, hosted a grand event in their beautiful home and created a small oasis in their back yard. It was sweltering hot, but one thing for sure, civil ceremonies are QUICK and we were all grateful for that!

Erin's three daughters (Faith, Megan, and Kylie) were her attendants and Ted, fiance extraordinaire flew solo for the day! I tried to wrangle a few photos of "processional" but I gotta tell you, those kids are FAST! That's why I consult, I'm definitely NOT a photographer!

Anyway, here are a couple of photos of the couple on their day...congratulations TED/ERIN Manganello.....and new family...looking forward to a great reception in November!

Cake was from The Cake Shop (stone oak location) and I didn't taste it, but I did transport it and I have to tell you...it smelled heavenly!!!

As always, Erin, you stole the show! You and the girls are beautiful! (you're cute too Ted!)

Hey, its me again!

These are just some random things I wanted to share.....this first photo is something that just "appeared" on top of my tv one day.....it seemed photo worthy...what do you think? ( have no idea why blogger has "turned" the photo on its side......but just give your monitor a quick flip...... ;)

Its been awhile....sorry, we have been busy!
First in January, Katie and Daniel had a fabulous event at the McNay Art Museum and I can't wait for Marcus Revilla to finish up photos so we can get the "good" ones....but I did want to share the groom's cake with you...

Based on Steel Magnolias (and yes, quite a few have done this cake) but done EVER so much better by Elm's Bakery.......it wasn't gray shelled (thank GOD!) and it wasn't red velvet....but it was a yummy dark chocolate with a raspberry filling that oooooooozed when we cut it! It was extremely good and even better, it was an art piece for the eyes! Very great design Daniel and Elm's did a great job of execution...the rest of us just ATE IT!

Hello again!!

A "standard" in the wedding industry is this....holidays (without fail) bring new engagements to my doorstep....inevitable, I watch for it, plan for it, know it will bring smiling (ok, outright giddy grins!) faces to my office. I know it!! I anticipate and am axious for it.

This holiday season was no different, the calls have started already.....but with just a little bit of a tweak.....three, (count them) THREE of my staff are newly engaged! People, are you paying attention.....THREEEEEEEE of my staff are getting married.......THIS YEAR! lol (ok, Julie is the exception...she's giving me the required 12months ONLY because her long time boyfriend-turned fiance is freaking out that he actually got the nerve to buy the ring!!) lol

Anyway, as you see the ladies in the hallways......give them the knowing "wink" the glad "hug" or the outright SCREAMS OF JOY that we all share when celebrating something as exciting as this!

Julie (one of my best!) is getting married in march 2010, Tiffany (a newcomer on the rise) is getting married this fall (september), and Erin (who I pulled unwillingly back into the business!) is having a grand THANKSGIVING wedding.

Congratulations ladies! Let the fun begin!

Hello everyone!

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukkah, glad tidings.....happy new year!??? Holy cow, I just didn't see it coming! Does this happen to everyone or just me??? lol....it seems as though, summer was just over and all the "kids" went back to school...and now the holidays are done and its time for a new year...

Wow!

My life just seems to disappear and the sad part of this is I live by the calendar! I PLAN events for a living! OTHER people's events...so, my life just has a habit of disappearing. Well...not this year! My resolution (one of many) is to be a part of my life, not just mark off the days of the calendar as they pass.

Look out family, lost friends, business associates........I'm coming back!

Future Clients....waaaaaay in the future!

hello again!

Its kind of crazy how things manifest within this industry....specifically, potential clients become family to us as soon as they sign on the dotted line.

We help with one of THE most important days of their lives as they start a new family and we get to participate in the joining of two families ! This is not only "cool" to us, but mind boggling. It takes a lot of trust for families to believe strongly that we will take care of this honor. (and we do consider it a great honor and treat this event with the respect it deserves!)

Once the process has begun, its a whirlwind ride right up to the limo ride at the end of the wedding night. Along the way, we get to know, not only the bride and groom, but siblings, best friends from elementary school, mominlaws to be and of course, grandparents and long lost relatives.

We cry when we watch you meet at the altar (when he hand out hankies at the back of the church, we keep one in reserve....I'm a crybaby!!)

We naturally hear all the stuff that was hidden in closests long ago (everybody has closets with skeletons!!)....we hear it because its always "toasted" about at the reception! Some of this is pretty darned juicey! hee hee :) Some of it super sentimental and some of it..just hilarious!

At the end of the night, we pack you into a limo or a hummer and send you off with your family...but because we've now adopted you, you're also a part of ours.

Does it end there....sometimes....but most times NOT! We get emails now from clients we had years ago, and we get baby shower invites (sometimes we get to host them for you!!!), we watch those little faces come into your lives and "complete" the family you started earlier ....and we get to continue to watch those babies grow! Is there a better job on the planet???

A resounding NO!! I love my job, I love my clients and now I love those babies!

I heard from a couple of recent brides that they are now pregnant, a couple have just given birth, some have a toddler....and of course, when I get photos....I have to share!

I'm posting a photo of Trenton....who is the coolest Yoda I've seen in a while!!! Ray and Courtney Mays were clients of mine just a short time ago...and she just sent me this photo and I HAVE to brag (no, Gloria, not taking grandma rights.....but I'm thinking a close second!!!)....he is just precious!

Ray/Courtney, again, congratulations on his birth and the great job you are doing as parents! And that little man looks just like his dad (with a little bit of cuteness from mom!) He has my eyes, don't u think?

I have another couple who just recently gave birth (Caro and Raul Urbina have a new baby boy, Christian!) and I'm waiting on photos of this little guy too! UPDATE!!! Photos are here! Christian Michael.......looking pretty darned handsome! Congratulations Caro/Raul.......beautiful little man you've got there!

Erica and Christian are just about 8.5 months pregnant....so more photos coming on them, too!

Its ME AGAIN!!

Our first November wedding....and just so everyone knows.....we try to limit the number of weddings we have per month when possible because we want to keep the service you receive......quality and of course personable. If we get too much on our business plate, the client normally suffers.....we want you to enjoy the process, not have to wait in line! Just an fyi....

Keith and Stephanie were married this past Saturday at the Weston Centre (we do a lot of events at this venue, and Keith just happens to work for the Weston). We overheard him talking about his upcoming event and literally, we had to beg this guy to let us work for him!!!! Yikes! I don't normally have to beg for a job, but they were going to do it on their own.......let their MOM and FRIENDS do the gruntwork, etc...........oooooh no!!! Not in my house! :) Ok, its Betty Cervera's house.......she's the special events coordinator there......but you get my drift, right?

Anyway, once we landed the job (mmmm, kind of last minute, two days before the event!!!) we step in to help. Thank goodness the bride and her family were organized and the groom knew the event site so well......it helped the last minute transition!

The wedding was gorgeous....they picked some pretty solid classic colors...blacks, ivory, gold and red...and a bit of champagne for linens.

They also married at the waterfall at the Weston and A touch of elegance built a beautiful 6' tall "crystal" cross for their enhanced backdrop...not too many florals outside...but gorgeous just the same.

Keith had a hard time "not working for the weston" on wedding day, but we finally broke him down and he let us work a little harder!

Stephanie was beautiful in her ballgown and blinged out to the max.

A touch of elegance also did all of the interior decor and it was nothing short of stunning! Sandra and Mario Garza are true artists and seem to never run short of new ideas!

...and did I mention our groom had a "steel magnolia" red velvet armadillo groom's cake??? He did....I took "before and after" shots!

Autumn weddings.....this was one of our weddings for early October and the clients were amazing!

Heather and Brandon have been married for over a year (they eloped) and parents were a little disappointed (ok, a LOT disappointed) that they didn't have the opportunity to attend! So, they all decided to do a "do over" and let the fun times begin.

Let me just say up front that Heather and Brandon are blessed with tons of family (most of their families are KRAZEEEEE fun! Yes, Maria, this means you and your daughter Yolanda!) and friends that wanted to share in their day, but because spacing was limited at their venue, they had to curtail the guest list. They felt really badly about this, but they just so fell in love with the site, they couldn't imagine hosting the party anywhere else.

The Weston Centre was their venue of choice for the ceremony and the reception both. The waterfall is gorgeous for ceremonies and we had three designers working on the venue (inside and out!)! Her colors: deep oranges, paprikas, yellows, deep greens, sands and taupes and a little bling for fun. Our men wore beautiful camel suits with a pinch of peach/mango in the bouts!

Great food, great entertainment, and beautiful venue........a win/win/win/win situation!

Yes, we did photos before the ceremony and brides...this is a great tip if you want to actually enjoy the happy hour you're paying for! You can still have that "surprise" moment where the groom sees you for the first time (we'll set that up for you where its romantic and private!) but then all the photos are out of the way before you're married and........let the good times roll right after ceremony!!

Hello everyone!

I love fall........love it! Beautiful colors (yes, even in south Texas we get a change of season!), cooler breezes, early sunsets, and we can now start thinking of cooking chili and cornbread or flour tortillas...and a nice cold beer or sangria to wash it down...and weddings weddings weddings!

this October has just been insane! I've talked to quite a few in the industry and they all tell me the same thing.....we are SWAMPED! The economy is awful right now, but weddings go on regardless! Its a life event........money is never an issue! Riiiiight!

Anyway, we've had a couple of events this month too, and had a blast with all involved!

Four Seasons of Wedding

Hi everybody!

Slow as a snail...yes, this is me......but we've had a killer month and although it is wrapping up, we still have some clients coming up that needed help too!

Anyway, I promised you photos of the bridal show we participated in at the beautiful Weston Centre and our great hostess and hosts - Ms. Betty Cervera (Weston Centre) and Eric Holtz (Holtz Entertainment) and Elliott Hamilton (Elliott Hamilton Photography).

Our "season" was Autumn (one of my faves!)......and we decided to stay true to tradition, but add a few surprise elements! Our colors: orange, burnt orange, plum, eggplant, olive green, opalescent and chocolate sheers, old gold, deep red and burgundy. Oh my goodness!

Let me tell you who were the stand outs in our "booth!"

Not in any particular order and most of these vendors (in fact, I believe all) are on the www.sanantonioweddings.com website:

Katie Rider, "announcing...the celebrations of your life" (Stationery!) katie pulled together some really chic "paint chip" business card give aways for us and helped me with some really yummy ferrero rocher filled chocolate organza purse favors! (I kept a few for later use!)

Ambiance Event Design (Gene Weston and Tony Ferro) -These two designed some more than beautiful bouquets for our models, and Tony handpainted a forest scene to compliment the handmade chuppa he also created, painted, and then they decided to add a floral "chandalier" just for fun! The tablescape was a twist on a Preston Bailey design we all fell in love with, but definitely with Tony/Gene's name all over it! They also created (with a bit of input from moi!) a lounge area to end all lounge areas! We couldn't keep people out of it, so.......we made them stay and sign contracts with us! lol

Linens: Raemie Jones co-owner of Cover That Up! supplied all of our linens and they were (to say the least) fantabulous!!! Oh my gosh, the colors, the textures....I could shop there all day long and they have a warehouse that seems never ending....so, believe me, I shopped!

Sweets: Our cakes/cupcakes/and halloween treats were all supplied by Sweet Traditions! (owner Lynda Stansberry) and her tables looked awesome! (to say the cupcakes were great is an understatement!)

Table settings: A Need for Place Settings (Enid Shoquist) owner supplied our crystal, the beautiful opalescent china and the flatware. It was soooo beautiful.

Catering: World Cuisine (by Azuca) did the wonderful seafood martini bar....oh my gosh, it was all I could do to stay away from their table.....but they were there to sell to clients and kept shooing me away......I don't even like seafood! (guess I was wrong!)

St. Hedwig and Koscuisko Texas...

Its me........still!

Ok, Daneane Jarzombek (say that three times really really fast!). Daneane and I used to be coworkers EONS ago (Hi Sparkles!!)! She is one of the sweetest people on the planet and when she called to tell me she was getting married.........I was all over it! She was going to hire me, she just didn't realize it at the time!

Daneane and Casey's wedding was a small intimate affair....250 guests at the church in St. Hedwig....and then an expected 625 at the hall in koscuisko......quaint!

Daneane had a definite idea of what she wanted for her day.......she wanted her roots to show (NOOOOO, she's really a natural brunette!) and lots of Polish traditions and fun and good food and DANCING! Oh yeah, and more food! She needed the hall dressed up a bit (K Hall is a little rustic, and although she wanted a casual feel, a little BLING doesn't hurt any bride!).

So, we dressed it up! Daneane's family was a huge influence on the day and everybody pitched in during the 4 days of decorating! We had the ceiling totally transformed with drapes and twinkle lights and...chandaliers?? OK, at least one!

Beautiful classic colors, black, gold and ivory and a pinch of chatreuse and the day was perfect! I've even got video of the grand march (a word of warning.....turn down the speakers I was standing right next to the DJ!). Bridesmaids in "car wash" pants and sparkley tops, and the groomsmen in boots and tuxes...a groom we had a whole lot of fun with (mostly trying to ensure he didn't peek at Daneane before the ceremony...this one had fun and traditions all in one!

Ok, I'm still typing..........

This post has nothing to do with business........but everything to do with my family! My foster daughter, Maggie, turned two recently and we HAD to go to Chuck E. Cheese (we HAD to go because I didn't want to clean, cook or bake! :)--- hee hee

Anyway, the kids had a great time and even my mom seemed to enjoy the day (she's 89 and loves cake and ice cream more than me so she was willing to put up with a few screaming children filled with sugar!)

Maggie had a blast (she's the brunette in the striped shirt!), and now tells everyone she sees about her birthday at Chucky's house! (yes, at two, she's talking.......loudly, incessantly, most of the time coherently!) Someone help me!!! We love her dearly, but my goodness, is quiet time a bad thing for kids???!

Anyway, if you see us out and about, please don't hesitate to ask Miss Mags about her day! :)

Cummins Company Picnic

This was a great chance for D & D to get our feet wet in the corporate arena again! We've had experience doing corporate functions, but its been awhile and we've been so focused on the bridal market! It was fun for a change, and we want to do more...but we'll never give up our brides! :)

We had really great bbq from Next Door Catering, and of course, raspas were a "given" Goodness its not a picnic with those! We had a Velcro wall to keep the kids "occupied!" (parents loved us for this....kids stuck to a wall for a couple of hours.....c'mon.....life doesn't get ANY better than that! ) A moon bounce for the little little kids (we had trouble keeping the dads out of here for some unknown reason........and the best part......a dunking booth filled with the management team from Cummins San Antonio office......a bucket of balls with their names on them and a whole bunch of employees filled with a year's worth of pent up frustration! A match made in heaven! Can I just say, EVERYBODY in mgmt. got dunked! Super fun.

Thank you Shanna Wolf for allowing us the privilege of working with such a great company! Please ask us again!

Falls City!

Let's start with the big stuff!

Clay and Emily Weston....engagement photo!newlyweds since September!

They were married in Karnes City (standing room only, please!) and then we moved on to Falls City for the reception. Bride and groom decided ITALY (more specifically, Tuscany) should be the theme, so we used burgundy, olive green and old golds and ivory! We draped the ENTIRE hall (the hall is really not attractive, but we needed the space for the 650+ guest count!)

Tony Ferro (Ambiance Event Design) painted 13 beautiful murals for us to hang in front of the draping...utilizing images from different areas of the Italian countryside he found in any magazine or book he could find ! This guy is FABULOUS at his craft! Tony's business partner, Gene Weston (groom's dad and artist in training) assisted with everything but the florals (and I'm not sure he didn't have his hands in those too!!) and I do mean everything!!He helped me put out about a million votives, hung all the murals, put up stand alone backdrops, carrried and placed wrought iron and SUPER HEAVY stone furnishings and cherubs.......and of course, helped me bring in the wine!! The decor was truly amazing and our couple had a great time! Food was fabulous and our DJ Sam from Cutting Edge Entertainment was of course, the BEST!

Hi everyone! I'm finally back to this blogging thing and have I got stuff to tell you! :)

D & D has been busy (company picnic, birthday party, a couple of weddings and a small bridal show - all this past month!) and I've got some photos to share, too......but the pros haven't given me theirs yet, so I'll apologize up front for my lack of talent.

I have a video to share as well, courtesy of my "country bride" Daneane and her new hubby, Casey. Anyway, we had lots of fun with them, their families and each other!

We helped host a company picnic in Brack park (I really didnt realize how much work the City has done on the "old" parks! Lovely spots all around the zoo and Broadway/Hildebrand areas...I've got to get out more! lol

For the bridal show, a fashion show is a must! And naturally models are necessary, so the salon (Bella's Bridal) asked for help from all of us to find some for them....naturally, we go to the closest resource.....our clients! Some of my past and current brides helped out tremendously by volunteering their precious time to come and help (you guys made the gowns look soooo beautiful!). And family came thru for me, too!

Thanks to: Jenn, April, Kristie, Heather, Daneane, Christine's sister & her army models (Christine's in Iraq..hard to help from there, but she came thru anyway!!), Erin and her entire clan (Faith, Megan (my granddaughter), Kylie), my other granddaughter Alyssa, and my new "daughter" Jackie and one of my colleagues...Amanda...........and Paula and Kammie and if I'm forgetting anyone.......I'm old! Old People forget....so please forgive me......just know you are all super appreciated!!

Hello everyone!

I'm touching on an extremely touchy subject for a lot of people. And, I know as a business, I shouldn't even venture here (the experts in marketing say this). But sometimes I just have to thank those entities that encourage and lift me up! If my business falters, then that's the way it must be.

First, I have to say I'm not a really super religious person. I believe in God, but I don't attend church regularly. I do good deeds on occasion and I try to be there for friends, families and strangers when I can. I believe in miracles and see them daily (miracles can be as simple as watching an ant carry a load 50 times its weight along a path a hundred yards long to help feed the rest of its family for the winter, to something as profound as being able to HEAR your husband tell you he loves you).

Why am I talking about this? Well, my wonderful cousin Jan sent me a link to one of the most beautiful videos (and spritually uplifting ones) I've EVER seen. I wanted to share this with you, even if you don't believe in God, the fact that this father was willing to do this for his son HAS to inspire you!

Let me preface the video just a bit. The father has a very real heart condition (stress is NOT his best friend!), but every time his son asked his father, "Dad, will you run a marathon with me?" His father never denied him. The ultimate challenge for the father, was the Iron Man Triatholon........and yes, the son asked, and his father agreed, to run this one. This race is NOT for the weak at heart!

For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island . Father and son went on to complete the race together.

So, I felt the need to share this with all of my friends and to say, thank you to those who have lifted me during my lifetime. And a very special thank you to my God!

personal stuff

Hello again, just two more pieces of news.

First, my granddaughters (Megan, 5 and Alyssa, just newly 4) recently attended Hannah Montana camp at the American Dance Co. on Starcrest. They had a blast and we learned a couple of new songs (true friend and rock star). They were adorable at their recital (No, I am NOT biased), and naturally, they were the best performers on the floor! Megan is the short haired brunette (she cut her OWN hair, what a big girl!!) and alyssa has the curls to die for! I won't bore you with ALL of the video, but, aren't they just the cutest kids on the planet???

Second, my foster daughter, Maggie, is almost two years old and it looks like her biological mom is getting her life back in order and this dear baby will probably be leaving us in December. We will miss her terribly but that's what fostering is all about, right? Bringing families into the healing zone and then reuniting them. It will be a hard transition for this little girl, as she's been with us over a year and knows us almost exclusively. It will be super hard for us to let her go, for the same reasons. Please say a quick prayer for this baby and ask God to keep her in his blessings!

Hey, its only been two weeks since my last blog!

Hi everyone!

This HAS to be a record for me! Blogging twice in the same month!

I hope everyone is having a great summer! I know we are. I'm supposed to be on a hiatus of sorts, but business keeps popping up and opportunities unexpected as well. Can't walk away from those, can I?

I wanted to brag a little more on our staff (no, we didn't lose anyone, we're expanding, remember??)

First, remember our girl Toni? Toni is moving (after the summer) to attend the university in lubbock (what's the name of that place anyway??) and finish out her degree (do they race there too toni???) Anyway, Toni has promised to start marketing us in the big city of Lubbock and the not so big surrounding areas! We're ready when you are!! Best of luck Toni and let me know when I need to pack my emergency kit and head north!

Next, we had two more recent additions to D & D staff:

First was Sara French-Henry. Sara is a stay at home mom (do moms REALLY stay at home??) with two adorable little girls, and a husband who thinks he is a true globetrotter! Anyway, Sara was so enthusiastic when I interviewed her and willing to step up and do just about anything we asked of her........so we asked things of her!! lol She took it all in stride and has proven herself quite invaluable!

Next up is Rebekah Miller. Rebekah is still in school and also taking a consulting course. I think she felt a little initimidated at our "group" interview, but she shouldn't have. She felt the others had more experience, more talent and could offer more. (just to catch you up, we held a group interview with all current staff as questioners and interviewees were also there enmasse!) The others in the group were personable, talented and for an assortment of reasons, didn't fit in with our group. Its very important to me as group leader that all staff is able to work well together. I want them all to WANT to come to the site and put on the best event possible. Well, Rebekah wasn't sure we wanted her, and was quite quiet during the process. In a one on one with her later in the week, this issue came up and we addressed it immediately. I'd prefer to have someone with NO KNOWLEDGE come in and be a sponge and learn from the bottom up, than have to deal with UNTRAINING someone who's been in the business forever. Rebekah is now almost ready to shoot out on her own and be lead at an event. She's done dredge work for a while, its time to get up Cinderella! She really has been great to work with, everyone loves her, and she's going to stay with me forever if I have to beat her into submission!!! kidding...love ya Becks!

Julie Traina (another staffer here!) is going to be a CADDY for her dad (Jim Traina) at the US Senior Open starting on July 28th and ending Aug 3rd! Its being held in Colorado and she's super excited for the trip, her dad is ecstatic that he qualified -even as an amateur - and best of all.......Julie will be wearing D & D on her sleeve to get some more marketing in!!! Hello.......Its me again!!!

I didn't have room to post on the last entry, so had to create a new one!

Our biggest news this year....

We recently moved into an office downtown!!

314 E. Commerce, suite 705......Above The Vault Restaurant and Zinc Lounge in the old Commerce Building.....I've wanted in this building for the longest time (I love the architecture and the old elevator is sooooo cool!). The office is very loungy and comfy and just MADE for great meetings! No filing cabinets here..administrative is done out of my home office still.......this place is for dreaming up great events!!

1 block from the Riverwalk and within walking distance of several great wedding venues (some of the MOST coveted by discriminating brides all over the country).....this photo is the view from my window...overlooking Hard Rock, Howl at the Moon (and is that Saltgrass peeking out at me under the green awnings??)

We operate there by appointment only and look forward to showing off to those of you that want to come and visit!!

Hola everyone!

I am soo disgusted with me!! So much has happened since my last blog...MONTHS ago. I am so diligent on so many things and blogging is just obviously not one of them.

People!!! send me email reminders that I'm a slacker out here, would you?? lol

ANYWAY, life has been grand at D & D...let's see, where to start.

First, the wedding scene. We've had some truly fabulous events come and go (it always makes me so sad when they leave me!) But I guess that's a part of the Planner's life, right? hold on.......wait a minute, we do baby showers too!!! They'll be back! haha, yes, they'll be back!

Since the last blog we've married off:

Carolina (CARO!!) and Raul. Oh my word, talk about a blast......not only did the bride and groom keep us all in stitches, Father Paul was a hoot, both sets of parents were hilarious and grandmoms...well, let's just say, we haven't had this much fun in a long long time! They were great and the wedding went off flawlessly....just beautiful!

Candace and Cedell -- all my clients are gorgeous and Candace was no exception! And what a heart! I'm going to miss her sweet emails and HER. Cedell was fun, too, but we didn't get the same amount of interaction as Candace and me! We did have some unexpected fun at the reception tho......Candace's father and his Zulu (can you say NEW ORLEANS??) brothers entertained us with their infamous umbrella parade! How fantastic was that?? Yep, we'll miss this family!

April and Jason -- now these two.....what a great duo! Jason was much more concerned about the details than April. April just wanted to marry this man!! It's unusual for grooms to be very involved in the wedding. They normally just hang out until the day of the event, but not Jason. We were pen pals to the max! I loved it! And I have to say, his decision making process definitely paid off in the end (and yes, April's mom had some say so as well!) The day was elegant and sophisticated and very much like the couple! On a different note, April's dad owns a few dealerships here in SA and hooked my son up with a great car (after he totaled his one night!). Thanks April!

Brandy and Eric -- (photos coming soon!) my out of towners and a quick thrown together on the river kind of party! They had 3 of the MOST handsome attendants (all sons of the bride!) and a family and set of friends to die for! We had a great time (albeit SHORT time) together! Brandy called me about a month out from her wedding date and needed help pulling things altogether.......and we did it! Thanks Brandy for having faith in us!

Lauren and Matt - Lauren was also an out of towner, but her Aunt lived just outside SA, so she got to help with a lot more of the planning than she PLANNED on, I'm sure! Matt is a Marine and he and Lauren had eloped over a year ago (much to her mom's dismay!). So, they promised mom they'd come home for the nuptials and throw the family a party! And did they throw a party!! The Oasis at Medina Lake was their choice (a marine and water) and a red/white/blue theme..worked out pretty well! Lauren looked beautiful even though temperatures soared on the lake (how was it she was wearing a gown that weighs 40lbs and she never showed a bit of "perspiration glisten" anywhere?? How do you do that Lauren?? All the rest of us were sweating like fighters in the boxing ring!!) The bride was beautiful and kept saying.....I wish I could do this every day....how fun to get married?? (she wasn't kidding, she's done it twice with the same guy already!)

Kristen and Mitchel - Kristen was actually a referral from a bride we assisted in 2005 (hi Erin!!). And we were all waiting patiently for Mitchel to propose.........we waited, and we waited and we waited...and then.... I got the call!!! Hallelujiah! Kristen/Mitchel and myself planned this one for almost 18 months! Why did it take us so long? Well, Kristen/Mitchel HAD to get married at the Texas Rangers Stadium in Arlington...no place else would do.........and so, we had to wait on the Rangers to get their schedule finished before we could set OUR date!! The wedding was fun and so many unique elements.....beer favors (Mitchel brewed it himself - 4 flavors no less, to coincide with the bride's colors - baby blue, neon green, chocolate and ivory),
Hard Night's Day (pseudo-beatles band) was the only band we would hire (they are truly AWESOME!), the guitar cake (it really looked real!), Mitchel played with the band (and SANG!!), guitar pick favors from the bride (can you see a theme running along the lines of MUSIC and baseball?) and a huge wedding cake (chocolate icing and baby blue ribbon)...photos of the wedding party out on THE field and guests were seated in the Diamond Club...watching the photo session take place. Teresa Sandvig of Elan Imaging took some really great photos.....please check out her website!!

Ashley and Kevin - our Boerne couple (ok, they were actually from Houston) but her grandparents have this beautiful horse ranch in Boerne and that's where we staged their tent event. Ashley's grandfather has a 100 year old log cabin that they've transformed and rehabbed into a haven in the hill country. My first visit with them at the ranch, I'm ashamed to say, they literally had to MAKE me leave. The grounds are manicured closer than some country clubs I've visited and the horses.....wow! And then that beautiful pond..and of course, the cabin. What a place. Mr. Reed, please won't you adopt me?? Oh, and the wedding was gorgeous too!

Anne and Justin - Lubbock group! lol Anne, her sister Katie, her dad John and her fiance Justin met with me on a sunday morning last year to discuss ideas they had for their day and to see if we were a "match" for the rest of the process. It was love at first sight for all of us! They were so fun and so unique and trusted me from that first meeting! Its hard to hand over the reins to someone you don't know with such an important event, but they did so without hesitation. Even though we held the event at a hotel, in the middle of SA, the "tropical flavor" they requested came flying through! It was beautiful! Orchids, Birds of paradise, ginger flowers.....and orange crush everywhere!! The day was beautiful......and my bride went down the aisle barefoot (in a gorgeous, BLING-encrusted gown!) I love her! And of course, the "around the world" gee we're married now hand slap at the altar!!! I love it!!

Ericka and Christian...(photos coming soon!) Ericka also met with me just at 1 year ago and we were only day of for her and Christian, but it felt like it was more. Not because Ericka called me all the time or anything like that, its more because I felt such a bond with her. We'd throw emails at each other on occasion just to make sure the other one was still "out there" and catch up on each other's lives! Ericka always wanted to know what was going on with me personally, and I felt the same need to catch up with her. Ericka pulled together a GREAT event.......lavender and chocolate and my goodness........how beautiful it turned out. Some things Ericka had NOT shared with me prior to event day (I love the toasting portion of my events.....attendants let out ALL the family secrets!!). One of those secrets was that Ericka is a twin, a surprise twin! The family knew all about her big brother (so big they couldn't find Ericka hiding behind him in the womb until 3 days prior to their birthdays!!). Another secret was that Ericka and Christian are EHarmony hookups!! They were both about to pull the plug on their subscriptions on the same day, when they decided to "refresh" the listing and both fell in love at once with the "new" popup contact. (how cool is that!!) And lastly, her twin brother, Blu Sanders, is an artist in his own rights. I did not know he was a songwriter and an excellent vocalist. He sang Ericka and Christian's first dance song and there was not a dry eye in the house! It was the most romantic first dance I've seen in ages! Soo beautiful! name of the song? Hold on! (no, really, "hold on" is the title!) lol

I'm on a short hiatus from weddings over the summer (a planned hiatus as I need to get some personal things taken care of....dental, vision, office cleaning, etc.) but we have some more great events coming up in the fall. A couple of huge events (800+.....don't you love country weddings ???) and a smaller wedding or two (less than 100 guests), with lots of action at all of them.

Man, I LOVE MY JOB!! More news in the next post!

I'll try to post photos of all my past events....but you know me........I'm pretty Techno challenged!

New STAFF!!!

Hello again.....I promise this is the last post for the night!

I have to brag a little bit because we recently brought on two more staff members and they are soooo good at this "job" that I had to share!

First is Rebecca Mires, who was a referral from one of my other Directors, Kristye. Kristye promised me her "buddy" would be great for Diamonds & Dreams. Riiiight....well, guess what? Kristye was definitely understating the value of this buddy! Rebecca was MORE than great!

Rebecca came into this company with both guns blazing! I mean seriously, she assisted at one of our events, coming in very last minute (someone called in sick) and very UNINFORMED. The result? She absolutely meshed with our vendors and the rest of the staff. She didn't need a lot of direction (for someone coming into this with no training) and was always "forward thinking" which is a must in the industry. Some people have that ability and some do not. Rebecca has IT! Needless to say, there was no interning for Rebecca..(of course I didn't tell her that up front, she would have asked for more money!!!)...she's Diamonds & Dreams born and bred! We love Becca!

Next is Toni Schach......Toni contacted me explaining she was interested in working in the planning portion of the wedding industry. Now, keep in mind, I get a LOT of "I want to work weddings" emails, resumes, phone calls, etc. But Toni's request just kind of got my attention, so we began a dialogue. I explained to her my goals, my expectations and my dreams and asked her about hers. Long story short, I asked her to work a wedding with us that month, just to get her feet wet and see if she was truly "serious" and we'd go from there. Well, as it turned out, that wedding (as great as it was planned on our end), required a LOT more help than anticipated. As anyone who knows me can tell you, there is nothing at an event that "isn't my job" so the things that came up (that really should have been handled by others on site) got handled by my crew.......and Toni. She never stood around twiddling her thumbs, she jumped in and got the job done and then came and asked.....what next? Do u love it?? Needless to say, she didn't have the normal "probation time" either. Toni is a gem and I'm hoping she stays with me for a long, long time! And did I mention, she's involved deeply as a pageant contestant AND a part time race car driver??? My staff is WELL ROUNDED!

Both Rebecca and Toni helped out at last week's fashion show at the Hill Country Bridal Fair and I have to say, they did an amazing job! Our "dressing facilities" were extremely lacking and yet they made it work! Thank you for a job well done!

As for the rest of my "employees" (they are actually my partners in crime, but I have to keep them scared of me so they work harder!)....I love you all to pieces! thank you for always making me (and our company) look fabulous!

Hill Country Bridal Spectacular 2008

Hello all!

You can always tell the true "wedding season"......bridal fairs galore! San Antonio, New Braunfels and Boerne. Bandera, Austin, Houston....you name the city and the "fair" will follow shortly behind!

We recently participated (and again, partnered with Megan's Bridal Corner) in the New Braunfels Bridal Fair and I thought I'd share a couple of photos from the show and show off some of the gowns and my booth! Also involved in this venture was Kim Middlestat of KM Impressions (air brush make up and image consulting) and Stephanie Eiland of Vanity Island Hair! They did such beautiful work and even pulled me off the floor for "touching up"........they gave up after a while........I'm hopeless! :)

Another plus for the day, my booth "neighbor" was Sweet Traditions..Lynda Stansberry, Owner/Baker Extraordinaire!....best cakes in all of Texas! (and she was handing out cupcakes!! Is life grand or what?? )

Marquardt Ranch Grand Opening!

We were recently asked to participate in a grand opening in Boerne, Texas at the beautiful new venue, The Marquardt Ranch. The great folks at MR were such gracious hosts and we're glad we were there! (That would be Dru Steubing - venue owner and his cohort...Amanda Spakes (Weddings by Showtime).

My good friend Teresa Sandvig (Elan Imaging) came by to view the venue and also to visit my "booths" (ok, they were dressed tables, but I still conducted business!). Great Day SA hosts a wedding show...and we were there!

Hey !!!

I'm baaaack!

We recently had the opportunity to participate in a great, hour long wedding show that KENS 5 tv hosted! How much fun is that???

I was interviewed by none other than Bridget Smith, KENS' own vivacious hostess with the world's most bedazzling smile (seriously, I couldn't concentrate on the questions because I was mesmerized by her mouth! ) She is not only fun, intelligent and beautiful......but baby those teeth! :)

Anyway, I was sick as a dog.......running a high fever and just didn't much care about anything (which probably explains my lack of nerves on the show! I was too sick to be nervous!) Anyway, it was a lot of fun despite my illness and I held company with some other really great SA vendors!

They are looking for a few models ( 8 - 10 actually) ranging in size from 6 - 14 (if you are unsure if you are in this size range, check their website and look under "size chart" to match your particulars. We love bridal gowns! Love them......hate the price tags....hate 'em! ESalons are a great way to save, but cause a lot of anxiety by those that purchase through them (for obvious reasons). We have found a trustworthy site (in fact, we've partnered with them) and thought we'd share with those of you out there willing to think outside the retail sales box and save money!

Megan's Bridal Corner will be hosting a fashion show in San Antonio in the near future (mid November is being bantered around I hear!). The show will be by invitation only as space is limited. If the response is great, they may consider holding two shows so that all may view the quality of the gowns in an effort to alleviate the fears of shopping on line!

Photography is one of THE key aspects of your day. Long after the cake is gone, long after I've left your home (yes, I will eventually have to let go of you!) and long after the music has died, your portrait and albums will be the source to prod your memories!

Please get a great photographer. Some are true artists, a few only capture some of the happenings at your event. Others really get inside your head to KNOW who you are.

I've worked with some really great ones, and some not so great ones! As a coordinator, working full service and "day of"...we meet all types in the business. I've been lucky enough to come across Teresa Sandvig, Photography by Teresa. She is super talented and FUN, and she works herself crazy for you. (and I do mean crazy!)

She has trained under some of SA's finest photographers and I can say, she has learned her craft WELL. Teresa has worked with a few of my brides and they LOVE her. She makes it easy for you to relax and enjoy the bridal or engagement sessions and during weddings, you don't even know she's there until 4 weeks later when she posts your face online!! Gotta love her!

The Good, The Bad, and the UGLY...

First, the GOOD....

I've been wanting to get started on this project for a long time, and decided there was no time like the present! I want everyone out there to know how proud I am to be a part of the wedding industry. I have the distinct pleasure of knowing some of the most incredibly talented people on the planet. As my posts continue, I'll definitely let you in on some of SA's finest vendors!

A little about Diamonds & Dreams...

Of course there's me! Tina Humphrey, Founder, owner, certified consultant extraordinaire (really, people have said this!!!). I've been doing this professionally for a number of years and cannot think of a better profession....period! (ok, being a taster at Godiva chocolates could be close...but it ain't better!)

And, about my staff! FANTASTICAL!! They reign supreme in all aspects of wedding coordination. I would love to say I trained them in my image, but that would be a lie. These women were definitely trained by me (why reinvent the wheel?), but when it comes to getting the job done....its a passion for all of them. They all say they do it to please the client and to please me, but, me thinks they take pride of ownership in a job well done. And job well done is the order of the day, not the exception with all of them.

I'll be posting photos of the ladies shortly, but for now, here are their bios!

Senior Associate/Director:
Leslie Garcia
Leslie is first and foremost a mom and a wife. Next to God, nothing is more important to her than family. She is also a full time mortgage professional and has to juggle a million details a day. She is excellent at customer service with D & D and has an eye for decor and design. Nothing goes out that she hasn't checked a dozen times to ensure perfection. Leslie came on board with me first as a friend, but then we quickly realized how well suited she was for this business. She loves making your family feel like HER family.

Senior Associate/Director:
Kiah Herod-Humphrey
Kiah is not only my right hand girl at weddings, she's my daughter in law! Kiah jumped in feet first, eyes wide open at a wedding where a vendor had serious staffing issues. Kiah stepped up (and then some) at this wedding and helped the vendor (no pay, sorry Kiah!). Kiah can get from one end of a venue to another in less than 60 seconds!! This alone makes her invaluable to me...Thank God she has extra long legs!! I'm very glad my son introduced her to me, for reasons she knows very well and I'm so glad she's decided to stay and help me grow this business.

Associate/Director:
Kristye Golly
Kristye is actually an ex-bride of ours. Her attention to details was so outstanding and she seems to love ANY type of party (and I do mean ANY type of celebration) that we had to have her! She has proven herself invaluable to Diamonds & Dreams time and time again. Kristye works full time in New Braunfels at the corporate offices of one of the largest trucking firms in the US. Her attention to detail in this job makes her worth her weight in gold (wait a minute, Kristye doesn't weigh very much...let's just say we would miss her terribly were she to leave!) Kristye stays on top of trends and fashion on both coasts and we pick her brain pretty much daily to see what's out there that we should be showing our clients.

Associate/Director:
Julie Traina
Julie is deeply entrenched in the hospitality business, working at two very upscale restaurants in SA. She is quick, quick witted and she does hair and makeup! We're trying to talk her into starting her own side business, but she's more interested in getting engaged to her long-time boyfriend and buying a home! Julie has also proven herself to D & D many, many times (she scares me sometimes how quickly she can come up with "fixes"...maybe she's not human....Can you say Stepford Director?? Kidding...love ya Julie) A quick thinking partner is a commodity every business needs on their side, and we're lucky she's agreed to work with us! (even though she tells me I don't pay very well!!) ;) She's right! Maybe I need to raise pricing!!

Ladies, to you I say.......THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING MY DREAM COME TRUE! You are all pleasures to work with and brilliant to boot! I love you all dearly. Thank you, I cannot do this without you.

Next, The BAD...Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there "becoming" coordinators. I'm not sure how you "just become" a coordinator. There are any number of schools and associations out there to help with this, but most just seem to "start" a business and "help" brides plan their day.

Just like any career, you need a plan, you need education, you need the HELP of mentors and great vendors and honing communication and organizational skills is in order to be productive. No, this is not rocket science, its just a "party" that you're planning, but what happens if you don't manage all the details correctly?

We're not afraid of competition (competition keeps us all on our toes in order to be the best!), but for those of you starting your own companies, please, take the necessary steps to get it right BEFORE you do your first booking! Remember, to you its just a paycheck, to the client...its a LIFE CHANGING event! Treat it as such. Two of the hardest things couples have to live through in their lives are: pulling together a wedding and building a house together. Its all those details that drag you down in any planning process. Would-be planners: get your details down!!!

Next, The UGLY...

Interns:
No, I don't mean interns are ugly! Silly people! We have interns that come and try us on for size (and us them!) and I have to say, as hard as we work, its not easy to pull yourself out of the intern trench! The reality shows have proven that this career is not only hard but, its also not for the weak hearted. I've actually had interns walk out mid wedding because they just didn't realize how UNGLAMOROUS the work is (I'm actually very mean, but....I'm the boss!) My staff picks up trash, hem skirts, chase down ring bearers, deal with unruly vendors, glue broken shoe heels, deal with alcohol-related issues (hee hee, get my drift?), clean tables (when catering is backed up), decorate, light (and re-light) endless seas of votives, babysit, WHATEVER it takes to make the event work flawlessly! I've had interns of all backgrounds, sizes, colors, genders and ages, and I have to tell ya, I'm pretty picky about who can stay! I have a thriving business, I have clientele that have specific needs and wishes and I intend to keep the business growing and keep the client's needs MET, unconditionally! Sometimes that means, moving on to the next intern to find the right fit. You need a specific personality to be a consultant/coordinator and most of us live, breathe and eat this job! Did I say job? I meant passion. For those of you wanting to be a planner/coordinator...I wish you well...but please don't think this job is a breeze...its more like a tornado, yeah, a 4 hour tornado! ;)
